124. Housing Shock: Derelict buildings should be homes in sustainable and livable cities

This Housing Shock episode of Reboot Republic talks to Jude Sherry and Frank O Connor from the Anois sustainable systems design agency about creating liveable sustainable cities. Jude and Frank explain about a circular economy approach, the issues of dereliction in Cork., and how they have done a mapping project identifying the empty buildings, and how they appear to being used as speculative property investment, they break down some of the myths on the barriers to addressing dereliction, they set out some solutions including implementing the derelict fines by local authorities, CPO, and state investment with coops and community. These should be homes within sustainable liveable cities and towns. This can be done. They show how it was done in Amsterdam. A great listen.
