Housing – Can the Market Provide? – with Ronan Lyons

The Tortoise Shack advocates strongly for the Right to Housing and for a referendum, if necessary, to help achieve it. But there is another school of thought. Joining us to talk about this is Assistant Prof of Economics at Trinity College Dublin and housing and property commentator, Ronan Lyons.

We discuss the current situation, the role of Build to Rent and REIT’s, the impact of co-living, the inefficiencies in housing delivery, the role of the State and whether there is a happy balance that can be found between the “free market” and the Right to Housing. Whilst we don’t necessarily agree on the best way forward, we do ultimately want to see the end of the housing shortage and homelessness crisis. Thanks to Ronan for having what is a informative and at times spikey conversation.
