I’ve decided that I’m going to run 2,020 miles in 2020. This is a mammoth task for me. I ran 725 miles in all of 2019, so this is about a 280% uplift. But it’s something I am committed to and think with luck, support and encouragement I can do.
I’ve spoken with members of the team at the Inner City Helping Homelessness (ichh.ie) and the drug harm reduction people at Ana Liffey (aldp.ie) and they’ve both agreed to help me to use this challenge to raise money and awareness for homelessness and addiction services. This only makes the task more daunting.
The donate buttons here are exclusively for #TortoiseRun2020. All debit/credit cards and PayPal are accepted, with proceeds going to ICHH and Ana Liffey. The goal is to raise €2,020 for each of the services. That’s €1 per mile. I’m sure we can do better than that. But lets see how it goes.
If I can stay healthy and relatively injury free I’ll need to be knocking out about 50 miles a week. Factoring in some injuries and the time it’ll take to get my body used to running the equivalent of almost 2 marathons a week, I probably need to be doing more.
I’m going to try incorporate some races into the schedule, as many as possible, to break the routine of running around the Ballymun part of Glasnevin and the Finglas part of Cabra. I’m going to need lots of help. If you have any recommendations, suggestions, ideas or tips email me on [email protected]
You can help raise awareness by using #TortoiseRun2020 on your social media accounts. I’m going to post regular updates online and on the podcasts. If you want to get involved drop me an email to the address above.
If I don’t reply immediately I’m probably out running.
